It
all started in 1881, when a God-fearing sea
captain by the name of Gustavus W. Schroeder established a much
needed church in the heart of San Francisco. Zion Baptist Church,
later to become known as Hamilton Square Baptist Church, was founded
on the fundamental doctrines of the Word of God.
Though
our location has changed several times over the decades, our dearly
held standards based on God's Word have not; maintaining the original
purpose of the church as stated in our constitution:
"The
object of this organization shall be: the preaching of the Gospel
of Jesus Christ and His sacred Word; to guard and promote the
spiritual welfare and growth of its members; minister to its
sick and care for its needy; to seek the salvation of those
who know not Christ; minister to the spiritual welfare of the
community; promote the missionary aims of the Church; and to
do everything possible to make known Christ Jesus our Lord and
His Work to a lost world."
We
are excited about the prospects of ministering the gospel in an
environment of aggressive paganism that characterizes this great
city.
The
God who has called the church into existence and sustained it
since first established in 1881 will continue to provide His power
and presence to sustain and bless it through the coming years
until Jesus comes.
Visit
with us for worship with the entire family this Sunday. We look
forward to meeting you.
