In
the New Testament, all believers identified themselves with and committed
themselves to a local church. To the congregation of Hamilton Square
Baptist Church, membership is much more than “joining a church.”
Membership is a commitment to God and to His people. This is a recognition
of your relationship to other Christians as a member of Christ’s
body.
It is a commitment to use
your spiritual gifts as a personal ministry to this local church and
to the lost in fulfilling the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ
and following the New Testament pattern for your life.
What
are the requirements for membership?
There are three basic requirements for joining Hamilton
Square Baptist Church.
• You must know that you are born-again and be able to give
a clear verbal testimony of this fact.
• You must have been baptized by immersion after you were saved.
• You must agree with the doctrinal statement and moral teachings
of this church.
Can
I transfer my membership from my previous church?
You
may transfer membership from your previous church under the following
circumstances.
• The church must be of like faith and order.
• You must be in good standing with that church.
• That church must send a letter of recommendation to us. (We
will make contact with the other church upon completion of the membership
process.)
Are
there other methods for joining this church?
Yes,
there are two other methods for joining Hamilton Square Baptist Church.
• By statement of faith – If you are not currently a member
of another church of like faith and order, and you can give a clear,
verbal testimony of your salvation, and you have been baptized by immersion
after you were saved, then you may join by giving a statement of your
saving faith in Christ.
• By baptism – If you have been born-again, but you have
not yet been baptized by immersion since salvation, then you may join
the church upon being baptized. If you are saved and have not as yet
been baptized, we would be happy to discuss arranging your baptism for
the near future.
How
do I become a member?
Come
forward after the invitation (This is the time at the end of the service
when the pastor invites all of those with spiritual needs to come forward.)
at one of the regular Sunday Services and indicate to the pastor that
you would like to join the church.
A personal worker will meet with you to
answer any questions you may have and will personally guide you through
the membership process. The personal worker will schedule you to meet
with the membership interview committee at the close of an upcoming
service. At that time you will share your testimony of how and when
you were saved and the fact of your baptism by immersion since your
salvation. Remember, your personal worker will be with you during the
entire process to assist and guide you.
Upon the recommendation of the interview
committee, the church will vote on your membership. This usually takes
place on a Wednesday evening within a week or two. Soon thereafter,
you will be formally welcomed into the church.
What
will be my responsibilities as a member?
The Bible describes the church as
a body. Every individual in the church is a member of that body. There
is no part of the body that is insignificant. Every part supplies
its unique qualities and gifts without which the body would be deficient.
As a resident of this area, God has placed you
here for a very special purpose. Every member should faithfully
attend and support the work, worship and outreach of the church.
It is also each member’s duty to seek out that special way
in which he/she may minister in and through the body of Christ.
The pastors are always pleased when a new member immediately shows
a desire for service and faithfulness to Christ. Please inform them
of your desire to find a place of service in the house of God.
Every member should desire to grow in the knowledge
of our Lord Jesus Christ. We encourage everyone to take apart in
our one-on-one discipleship program. This is a fourteen-week course
designed to lay a foundation of the basics of walking with Christ.
We recommend this course to everyone who joins--even if you have
been saved for some time. You will find this program both profitable
and edifying in your relationship and walk with Christ.
Every
believer in Christ should be committed to a Bible believing local
church, active in its ministry and serving the Lord. If you have not
yet made that commitment, we encourage you to do so today.
